10 Golden Rules for Google SEM – How to write Keywords

With around 380 million unique users accessing Google every month, the Adwords Program became a must to have on your marketing portfolio. The program set up is quick and simple and it has intuitive functionalities with help access.

But even if the program set up is not a major problem, figure out how to use it is still a big issue for some advertisers.

Every day I come across more and more tools that promise help with the keyword selection.

The point is, more than 90 million searches are performance a day but over 60% of all searches/day have never been searched before.

How to forecast what you really need?

Below I wrote 10 tips to help you to get the maximum from your SEM Keyword set up:

  1. Benchmark competitor’s web page and look for tags/meta tags. (you can do it clicking “View” and “Page Source” on your browser;
  2. Search for Brand’s names in Google Sandbox
  3. Look at your clients/members/suppliers testimonials, if you look over your communication you’ll possible identify valuable keywords
  4. Consider using synonyms. Consult a good online dictionary
  5. Explore plural / singular keywords
  6. Verbs – get special attention on the tenses
  7. Use hyphen and variations. Example: off-shore, offshore, off shore
  8. Consider using abbreviations and misspelling. Use the tool Serachspell.com
  9. Try some acronyms and abbreviation, make sure you are not using an acronym used by other industry/association. Try the website Acronym Finder
  10. And finally, test, simple….just test.
