Nielsen and Facebook should discuss today at Ad: Tech in San Francisco, the results of the 1st study in collaboration between the 2 companies.
After analysing 800 thousand users of social networking and online ads from 14 brands in different categories, research shows that it is worth getting fans Facebook.
That’s because the ads on the site become more efficient when added “authentic social components”
WTF is this?
It pays to have fans on Facebook if you want your ads to work there too, according to the first public study to come out of the collaboration of Nielsen Co. and Facebook.
- if the user’s friends are fans of particular brand on the network, Facebook advertising is way more effective and may increase purchase intention up to 4 times. Ad recall and awareness are also affected when home-page ads on the social network mention friends of users who’ve become fans of the brand in the ad.

But hold on, it’s just me or anyone else agree there’s anything new on this? We all know that all of the above works — it is called “marketing”, even better it’s called “Social acceptance” , using friends and communities to inspire sense of beloging, remember old good times of testimonials, etc?

Hey Lucio,
I”m curious as to how big the fan numbers are to get some real value out of FB ads.
Looking forward to seeing the full results of the study.

Posted by Scott Kilmartin | April 21, 2010, 6:44 amIt supposed to be intelligently linked to your audience. Let’s say I’ve got 2 friends, this ad supposedly would show from and for my networked fans. As it grows the efficiency grows.
I still like the Facebook ads for BRadning though you can have a huge number of impressions for a very limited budget (they charge by click).
