Google offers the web tool called Google Analytics a free service that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a determined website.
Its main highlight is that you can analyze of where the visitors of your website or blog came from, how long they stayed on the website and their geographical position.
Most important, you can define and track conversions or goals. Goals might include sales, subscriptions to newsletters, lead generation, viewing a specific page, or downloading a particular file.
By using this tool, you can determine which ads are performing, and which are not, as well as find unexpected sources of quality
You can have it started by including an specific given code on each page you wish to track. This JavaScript code loads larger files from the Google webserver and then sets variables with the user’s account number.
Analytics offers different reports, they are so numerous that even experienced webmaster and marketeers sometimes get confused.
Definitely is a great tool, but just if you know how to use it.
Google has a step-by-step guide to teach how to use, but was on Beth’s Blog where I found one of the best guide to beginners for Google Analytics. It’s a great ScreenCast, great resource and a must to see video.
