My friend Jeff Richardson and myself got together another day talking about what really matters in a relationship with costumers.
That’s not an easy discussion to try figure out what it drives people to make decisions…but at certain moment in our talk we remembered about some advice given by Dale Carnegie in his must read book “How to win friends and Influence People“.
In a time of one to one marketing where direct relationship with the final costumer people is usual, having abilities to make people see you friendly and having the power of influence people can make all difference.
His advice serve to all sort of people, from someone in an interview asking for a job to a car dealer selling the brand new car.
Dale Carnegie describes in his book using simple tasks how to handle people, how to make people like you, how to win people to your way of thinking and how to change someone else mind.
Six ways to make people like you
- Become genuinely interested in other people.
- Smile.
- Remember that a person’s name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
- Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
- Talk in terms of the other person’s interests.
- Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely.
Fundamental Techniques in Handling People
- Don’t criticize, condemn or complain.
- Give honest and sincere appreciation.
- 3. Arouse in the other person an eager want.
Tomorrow I’ll write the second part about “how to win people to your way of thinking” and “how to change people”.
Cheers
